JustAir V2: Built in community.
Designed for greater access.
On September 23, we're launching JustAir V2, a refresh of our public air quality dashboard based directly on feedback from the people who use it every day: parents, activists, runners, citizen scientists, seniors, government leaders, doctors, and so many others who want to understand the air they're breathing.
The values that guide how we work
This launch is a chance to focus on values that guide how we work.
- Community knowledge, culture, history & science. V2 is built on what residents told us and on the science that backs it up. We looked at software tools people already use so checking the air feels more familiar and accessible.
- Iteration, process & growth. We built V2 from years of feedback but we're already listening for the next round of updates. V2.1 is already on its way so keep the feedback and ideas coming!
What changed
People asked for the dashboard in their own language, fewer steps to sign up for alerts, and more detail and less detail at the same time. So V2 is built around where you are in your air quality journey, from a first read of a color to what a pollutant actually does to you. Beyond the design, we rebuilt on faster, more secure infrastructure, and V2.1 is already on its way.
Accessibility for All
Broader access to your air quality data: more ways to take it in, and more ways to move through it.
- More languages. Spanish and Arabic today, more on the way.
- Readable at a glance. From color contrast to clear text, tested to WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Keyboard and screen reader. Every step named, every step visible.
It doesn't stop here
We didn't build V2 as a one-and-done release, we're set up to keep improving it based on what we hear next.
A few things are already in the works.
In design. The same readings at three time scales.
- Week-long and month-long views of air quality history
- Pollutant concentration levels alongside AQI
- A more direct, actionable version of Plan Your Day
- More text alert preferences and customizations
Keep the ideas coming
V2 exists because people told us what wasn't working and co-created with us as we iterated to make something better together. Thank you to everyone who uses JustAir every day and kept pushing us to make it meet your needs. We are just getting started. The future is bright!
- What you likeSo we know what to protect as we keep building.
- What you would changeV2.1 is already in flight. What you send now shapes it.
- Which languages you needTell us what matters where you live and we will prioritize it.
